ABOUT KOTTARAKKARA

Kottarakkara, a compound word made up of the words Kottaram, meaning “palace”, and kara means “land”, plainly means “land of palaces”. The region which had several palaces was thus called “Kottarakkara .Kottarakkara, also known in the olden days of the kings as the Elayadathu Swarupam, was a principality ruled by a branch of the Travancore Royal Family unit. It is the home of Kathakali

The center of attention is the Kottarakkara Kathakali Museum, that is certainly constructed as a monument to honour Kottarakkara Thampuran, the founder of Kathakali. This museum comprises of a a range of stuff of antiques, decorations, Kathakali models, costumes, ornaments, musical instruments and sculptures of the dance forms. Kizhakkekara Siva Temple is basically located where we now refer to as Mahaganapathy Temple. The primary god is none other than Lord Shiva, who is focused towards the east. Ganapathy is certainly a minor deity in this context. However, rather than being a Siva temple, the temple is now well-known as a Ganapathy shrine. Now  Kottarakkara Sree Mahaganapathy Temple is a place of pilgrimage center.
